Where do you ship?
Free shipping is available worldwide.
What is your process like?
Upon first receiving your information, our translators, Dr. Kotaro Fujimoto and Dr. Ryoma Ishii, will find the most appropriate kanji to represent your name. These characters will be sent to Yukima, the calligrapher, who will use those characters to create a work of art on the hanging scroll. This will then scanned and converted into a file to be laser engraved on stone. Once engraved, we will collect and package together the seal, inkpad, storage box, and scroll. When this package is shipped, we will notify you of the successful completion of your order.
Do I need to order the whole package? I only want the hanging scroll.
It is possible to have a special made hanging scroll without including the seal. Please email us at email@example.com with your request and we will do our best to accommodate you.
If I am not satisfied with my kanji name, can it be changed?
Yes! Because we focus on making products that will have personal meaning to you, we want to make sure that you are completely satisfied. We are willing to offer unlimited chances to revise your name until the perfect one is found.
What are the products?
Les Ateliers de Japon offers you a seal, ink pad, seal storage box, and a hanging scroll all in one combined and integrated package.
What material do you use to make your seal?
Though traditional Japanese seals can be made from a multitude of different materials, we provide seals made from unique stone polished smoothly.
What sizes are your products?
Our stone-made seals have the dimensions 50mm × 50mm × 50mm.
The hanging scroll is 1035mm × 575mm.
The paulownia seal storage box is 173mm × 118mm × 67mm.
Will I be able to see my name converted into Kanji before shipping?
Yes, once our translators have found appropriate and meaningful kanji to use, we will notify you of the choices we made for the translation.
My name is quite long. Are there any limits on length?
Unfortunately, yes, first names or personal names that are quite long can be difficult to kanjinize and engrave onto the seal. However, in that case we recommend using middle names or nicknames to make your seal. We can also use hiragana or katakana to provide a rendering of your name. If you have any questions or concerns about this process or how to proceed, please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I have made my own kanji name. Can this be used for the scroll and seal?
No problem! As long as the characters are within the correct specifications for length to engrave on the seal, we will use the kanji that you have personally chosen.
